Message from Program Director

Welcome to the Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) Program at HKUST! This is an extra-ordinary program that gives students with a good career and study plan.

Being an IIM student, you will have the opportunity and academic freedom to combine courses from different departments and Schools at HKUST, and even different universities, to develop an interdisciplinary major tailor-made to your intellectual interests and career pursuit. There will not be rigid school requirement, except the common core courses. What it takes is very careful planning of your own academic path that fits your future career goal, where no existing academic program can provide.

The process of developing your IIM can be very demanding but at the end rewarding. The preparation process forces you to reflect on your own interest and ability, what and how to meet your educational goals. The outcome is a good understanding of yourself, your strength and potential. It allows you to develop a meaningful curriculum and unique learning experience for the entire university study.
