On 27-29 Jun 2023, The World Economic Forum's three-day "Summer Davos" has seen over 1,500 global leaders discuss topics centered around "Entrepreneurship: The driving force of the global economy." While HKUST has the honour to be the only university in Hong Kong invited to attend the Forum, Prof. Pan HUI, Chair Professor of the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA), served as the moderator of the Betazone session “Healing in the Digital Realm” and led a discussion on the integration of traditional healing practices with emerging technologies to find solutions for health and well-being in the metaverse. Nathan Nan XU, PhD Candidate from Individualized Interdisciplinary Program, won the Second Place together with his team at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech) Conference Student Poster Contest held on 21 April 2022. A total of eleven posters were presented online. The research topic they presented was “Smart Tracking Tray System for A Smart and Sustainable Wet Lab Community”, which is part of the HKUST Sustainable Smart Campus (SSC) As Living Lab project outcome. IPO Student Ambassador (SA) Award Ceremony and Appreciation Gathering was held on 30 September 2021. Prof. Huamin QU, Director of IPO, thanked the Student Ambassadors for their contributions and presented certificates to all the recognized Student Ambassadors of 2020/21. Students then joined a nice dinner and shared the SA and outreach experience of the past year. Read more

Yash AGRAWAL, a Year 3 student of Individualized Interdisciplinary Major Program (IIM), created his own major “Environmental Geoscience” to study the mechanisms and interactions of the various earth systems, such as the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere, and the impact of human activity on the environment. Jointly organized by the Computational Media and Arts Thrust (CMA) of the Information Hub of HKUST (GZ), the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA) and of HKUST (CWB), EMIA cross-campus visit to the CMA Lab was successfully held at the Guangzhou campus of HKUST (GZ) on 21 and 22 May.
On the first day of visits, participants were invited to the tour of the cutting-edge facilities, including the Visitor Centre and Metaverse Joint Innovation Laboratory (元宇宙聯合創新實驗室), and had the opportunity to attend demonstrations by various research teams. Other than the campus tour, participants were also given a Guangzhou cultural tour, visiting famous cultural spots in Guangzhou, including Shameen and Yongqing Fang in the Liwan District. Participants had a great time enjoying the view and learning the history from the tour.
