Frequently Asked Questions
Please refer to the application timeline on the FYTGS website. Applications received will be reviewed on a rolling basis, you are recommended to apply as soon as possible.
There are no explicit rules for admission. Applicants will be reviewed according to their academic and research abilities – the academic performance in the undergraduate and postgraduate studies and also the research activities you participated and your research plan.
The Statement of Purpose is also important to show us that your proposed research topic is interdisciplinary and no other existing RPg programs can help you to achieve your research goal.
Strong reference reports are also essential to your application and hence you are required to submit at one reference reports in the Online Application System.
The letters of recommendation are used to evaluate your ability and fitness to be a MPhil/ PhD student so you should ask someone who knows you well enough to write, e.g. your FYP advisor, the instructor of any courses you performed very well, your potential supervisors or your job supervisors if your job duties are relevant to your research).
All full-time research PG students should be funded 12 months a year, up to 2 years for MPhil students and 3/ 4 years for PhD students. The studentship support will come mainly from the supervisors, and/or the university. The support may be dependent on satisfactory progress in the PG study or satisfactory work. Part-time students will not be given any studentships.
