Text Area

Major+DMCA aims to integrate creative arts and digital media in the world of rapidly changing technologies and allow students to study the two areas in an interdisciplinary program framework. Wide variety of courses facilitate students to bridge the gap between the technical and artistic sides of the media field and provide them necessary technical skills to apply the latest computing and media technologies in the creation of digital media and arts including computer games, animation, special effects, sound, wireless and mobile media, internet application and interactive installation.

There are undergraduate programs related to Media and Arts offered by sister universities in Hong Kong.  These programs admit over 300 freshmen every year.  Hence, there is a real demand for Media and Arts programs from high school students.  Yet, students who are academically strong will tend to apply for highly competitive and career-driven majors such as medicine and global business, rather than interest-driven majors such as music, media and arts.   The Major+DMCA would provide an invaluable opportunity for students to enrol in traditional majors to fulfil their career goals, and at the same time, to pursue their personal interests in emerging areas such as Media and Arts.

Admission Requirements

The Major+DMCA program will not admit students directly through JUPAS or Direct Admissions. Rather, students will declare their intention to enroll in the extended major of DMCA via the Opt-in arrangement during Year 1 Summer term (for SENG and SSCI) or Year 2 Winter term (for SBM and SHSS).  If approved, students will officially enroll in DMCA with effect from Year 2 Fall (for SENG and SSCI)/ Year 2 Spring (for SBM and SHSS).

The Extended Major in Digital Media and Creative Arts is available for combination with Science Majors (BSc programs in Mathematics,  Ocean Science and Technology), Engineering Majors (BEng/BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Integrative Systems and Design), Business Majors (BBA/BSc programs in Professional Accounting, Economics, Finance, Global Business, Information Systems, Marketing, Management, Operations Management, Economics and Finance, and Quantitative Finance) or Humanities and Social Science Major (BSc in Global China Studies, BSc in Quantitative Social Analysis). It is designed for students with fundamental knowledge in calculus (e.g. MATH 1014/MATH 1020/MATH 1024) and programming [(COMP 1021/COMP 1022P/ISOM 3230) and (COMP 2011/COMP 2012/ COMP 2012H)], but also open to other students, given that they may be required to take one or two additional courses to acquire relevant foundation.
