Major+CADH aims to integrate creative arts and digital humanities in the world of rapidly changing technologies and allow students to study the two areas in an interdisciplinary program framework.  It is not intended to replace the traditional humanities. Rather, it creates new research methodology that allows humanities scholars to critically use big data in the digital age.

With the successful launch of the Digital Humanities (DH) Initiative by the Division of Humanities and the Library, the Extended Major in Digital Media and Creative Arts will be revamped to Extended Major in Creative Arts and Digital Humanities (EXT-CADH), with the focus more on Digital Humanities which foster interdisciplinary innovation and prepares HKUST students for emerging fields such as digital curation, cultural analytics and technology policy, etc. The DH courses aim to bridge the gap between humanities and technology so that students are able to use AI to analyze ancient narratives.
The Major+CADH also provides an invaluable opportunity for students to enrol in traditional majors to fulfil their career goals, and at the same time, to pursue their personal interests in emerging areas such as Digital Humanities and Creative Arts.

Admission Requirements

The Major+CADH program will not admit students directly through JUPAS or Direct Admissions. Rather, students will declare their intention to enroll in the extended major of CADH via the Opt-in arrangement during Year 1 Summer term (for AIS and SSCI) or Year 2 Winter term (for SBM and SHSS).  If approved, students will officially enroll in CADH with effect from Year 2 Fall (for AIS and SSCI)/ Year 2 Spring (for SBM and SHSS).

The Extended Major in Creative Arts and Digital Humanities is available for combination with Science Majors (BSc programs in Mathematics,  Ocean Science and Technology), Business Majors (BBA/BSc programs in Professional Accounting, Economics, Finance, Global Business, Information Systems, Marketing, Management, Operations Management, Economics and Finance, and Quantitative Finance) or Humanities and Social Science Major (BSc in Global China Studies, BSc in Quantitative Social Analysis) and Interdisciplinary Major (BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology). It is designed for students with fundamental knowledge in calculus and programming, but also open to other students, given that they may be required to take one or two additional courses to acquire relevant foundation.
